Infiniti’s flagship SUV has been called “streetcar,” “hippo,” and some other not-so-clever and graceful animals. At the end of 2020, it underwent another restyling, the main purpose of which was to update the interior.
The SUV’s exterior was redesigned back in 2018, surprisingly enough. The heavyweight SUV with bus-like dimensions has never looked so elegant and even with a certain sporty flavor.
The key aspect of the updated QX80 is the multimedia. Now here too, following the example of the younger models, the two-screen concept is used. The upper display always shows the map, allowing not to get lost in the process of using other menus multimedia.
The lower display is responsible for everything else, but you can also start using the navigation on both. Here are also all the settings, radio, music and climate controls.
The manufacturer notes that the QX80 now has a modern Bluetooth chip, with which you can switch tracks and audiobook chapters on your smartphone directly from the multimedia. Finally, this feature has made its way here as well.

At the same time, the menu itself multimedia has not been updated: there is still the design and graphics of the sedan Q50, on which this system debuted in 2013. Since then, almost the entire structure of the infotainment has remained unchanged.
Nevertheless, the system is still relevant to this day – it is a pleasure to use. Thanks to the new CPU, the system has smooth animations and fast response times. Almost no brakes can be seen anywhere. Separately, some of the objects on the maps of major cities pleasing to the eye: such detailed traced buildings almost none of the maps.
An attribute of 2020 is the richness of ports. There is even USB-C, which started appearing in cars not so long ago. The usual USB-A is also present here, so you don’t have to look for adapters. On the back row there are wireless headphones with good sound and even HDMI ports, with the help of which you can connect to the headrest monitors.
There is also support for Apple CarPlay with Android Auto. The image is displayed on the upper display, so that the built-in navigation can be replaced by a more modern one on a smartphone. Both protocols work almost lightning fast, delays and brakes are not observed.
We should separately mention the cabin rearview mirror, which is also a screen: it displays the image from the rearview camera, located under the spoiler so as to remain clean even in very “dirty” weather. But also with a slight click the screen turns into an ordinary mirror.
To use the mirror in camera mode at first it seems not too convenient – confused by the angle, but after half an hour I forgot that the mirror has a mode of the actual mirror. Of course, the image from the camera does not shine with clarity, graininess of the picture is quite high, but the camera does its job.
Updating of Infiniti QX80 did not affect the technical component of SUV. Under the hood is still set practical “lamp” 5.6-liter atmospheric V8 paired with a seven-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. Here everything remained without changes: power of the engine is 415 hp and torque is 560 Nm.
The all-wheel drive here works in former three modes plus a towing mode. The car rides heavy and solid. The engine is almost inaudible in a stream – thanks to reinforced noise isolation of the engine compartment. But if you push a pedal as much as possible, V8 will change from whispering to roaring.
It is better to estimate quality and a level of sound insulation, to stand in front of the hood with the started engine for about 5 minutes, and then having climbed inside. The power unit creates a lot of noise from outside. It’s necessary to remember that it is a huge atmospheric engine.
Infiniti QX80 is a big car and takes a lot of space. To park such a “truck,” you need skill. The all-around view will help you if you did not see something. It costs nothing to snag a post or fence on it – the rear bumper is literally a shelf on the back of the car.
